plantar artery which had been severed, and was in a very weakened condition, though quite cheerful when spoken to encouragingly. In addition to rupture of the plantar artery, part of the lower portion of the articular area of the oscalsis had been shot away, together with the internal lateral ligament. The lost part, however, was not of such a nature as to cause any dislocation or disfigurement of the foot. The first metatarsus had been fractured obliquely but the parts remained in perfect apposition. The greatest damage was done on the inside of the foot. Treatment.?Owing to the very large size of the wound, the plantar artery was easily found and ligatured. The wound was then thoroughly swabbed out with Tine. Iodine, and as the foot was in a very dirty condition, I immersed it in a hot iodine bath for half an hour, eventually using a cyanide gauze dressing.
